Our park was on the agenda in State Parliament this week.

8000 people in a suburb on a peninsula and without a park!

The plight of Wentworth Point is a familiar one to many people across Sydney who are witnessing rapid levels of development but without the services to support them.

ADF Counter Terrorism exercise at Sydney Olympic Park

The Australian Defence Force will be conducting an exercise named MARS OLYMPICS 2017 over the period 13 – 17 Nov 2017, which will involve venues at Sydney Olympic Park.

The 2 Commando Regiment’s Counter Terrorism’s Tactical Assault Group-East (TAG-E) will be conducting an exercise named MARS OLYMPICS 2017 over the period 13 -17 Nov 2017. This exercise MARS OLYMPICS will consist of several fall mission profiles utilising multiple venues throughout Sydney and is designed to facilitate the handover/takeover of domestic counter-terrorism responsibilities within the ADF. In addition, this exercise will involve the NSW Police and emergency services and the Transport for NSW. This exercise provides an invaluable opportunity to facilitate a combined government response to a domestic terrorism incident within the Sydney metro area.

The training is designed to test the capabilities and response options available to government and as a result will ensure that the ADF Domestic Counter Terrorism is exercised in realistic and demanding exercise scenarios. The following non-Defence training areas and civilian infrastructure will be utilised at Sydney Olympic Park for the conduct MARS OLYMPICS 2017:
– Spotless Stadium
– Olympic Park station.

Your support for this exercise is greatly appreciated in providing civilian infrastructure that is critical to this training activity and will allow the ADF has an operationally capable domestic counter terrorism option available to the Australian and NSW Government. The public should not be alarmed if they see low-flying helicopters, vehicles and military personnel or hear the associated noise of the helicopters, blank gunfire and pyrotechnics. Additional parts of this training will occur in the Parramatta, Holsworthy/Liverpool and Hunter regions.

The ADF is unable to provide media access or further information, including specific timings, regarding this training in order to protect operational tactics, techniques and procedures. Individuals with concerns should contact: army.contact@defence.gov.au.
