Increased traffic to Sydney Olympic Park this Saturday 21 October.

Over 80,000 people will come to attend multiple big events in the Park including Monster Jam, The Chainsmokers and Cirque du Soleil.

There will be an increase in both pedestrian and road traffic at Sydney Olympic Park. The car parks are expected to fill. Where possible, take advantage of the increased public transport services to avoid traffic congestion.

Road closures will also be in place to accommodate increased public transport and increased pedestrian activity. Remember to visit the Sydney Olympic Park road closure map to view road closures.

Supporting everyday mobility needs in Parramatta.

The research project (about supporting people 50 and over and their transport independence in culturally diverse settings) needs support from the local communities of Newington to recruit the focus group participants for this research.

If the people are 50 and over and live in Carlingford, Newington, Sydney Olympic Park or Wentworth Point, they are eligible to participate into the focus group held in the early November. At present, there is need to recruit the participants with Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean backgrounds for the focus group. As a thank those who participated it will be given a $30 Eftpos card to cover transport costs.

The online survey has already been activated, and the link to this survey is: https://tinyurl.com/MobilityResearch

This research project is run by Parramatta Council, Business School of SydneyUni, and UTS.

WP Ball – Wentworth Point Community

Rose won’t be able to make it to tonight’s BBQ due to an unforeseen circumstance. Apologies.
Come along to the Ball next Saturday night for a chance to meet Rose: http://wentworthpointcommunity.org/events/wpball/

WP Ball – Wentworth Point Community

WP Ball Domestic violence is a terrible fact of life in our current society, affecting far too many women and children, and in ways that most of us cannot even imagine. Escaping the nightmare is often made all the more difficult when there are limited or no places offering women and children the ref…

Message from Rose Manousaridis, Principal Wentworth Point Public School

Thank you to all the parents who attended and provided feedback at the Parent Forums this week. It was a pleasure to meet so many of you and I am looking forward to growing our beautiful new school together. We will shine !!!

The name of the school

Following community consultation I am in a position to advise you that Wentworth Point Public School has been secured as the name of the school.

Logo and motto

The logo and motto have been secured and I attach this information for your consideration.

The uniform

The uniform has been secured although as discussed it is highly unlikely that the check fabric for the girls’ summer uniform will be ready by the beginning of the school year. At this stage I am suggesting that the girls wear the plain shorts or they can wear the sports uniform. It is not ideal but as we discussed at the meetings we do not have control over the limited amount of time we are operating in but the check will be worth waiting for and the girls will look fabulous in the dresses and/or skorts. I will advise you of how to purchase the uniform as soon as I am advised by Pickles, the uniform company.

Miscellaneous Matters

Enrolments

Enrolments are currently being accepted at:

Victoria Avenue Public School
64-66 Victoria Avenue
Concord West NSW 2138
Phone: 97431352

Communication Strategies

Given we have now secured the name, logo and motto of our school I will endeavour to implement strategies to facilitate communication with our parents and the community by:

· Providing information via Wentworth Point Community Central (Facebook page, www.wentworthpointcommunity.org, weekly email)
· Distributing flyers to local business owners including the new IGA opposite the school and real estate agents
· Beginning to build the school website
· Working with Schoolzine to prepare the app for download by parents and members of the community

Crossing and Drop Off Zones

I will raise these matters at the Project Reference Group meeting on 12/10

Building Progress Reports

I will raise this matter at the Project Reference Group meeting on 12/10

Parent Handbook

I am in the process of developing an A-Z Parent Handbook to assist families with orientation of Wentworth Point Public School and will make this available by Friday 3 November.

School Bus

I have been advised that buses are not the domain of the Department of Education and are the responsibility Transport NSW. Please be advised that the private buses the department has been operating to and from Wentworth Point-Newington will cease at the end of the year.

Walking School Bus

Parents at the forums suggested a Walking School Bus which provides a safe, environmentally friendly and healthy method for children to travel to and from school. It encourages healthy exercise habits, strengthens children’s road safety awareness and decreases the use of vehicles and associated traffic congestion in the area. I will organise for a member of the P&C at Victoria Avenue Public School where the Walking Bus is operating successfully to attend the next parent forum to explain how we
might be able to introduce this at Wentworth Point.

Get Happier Project

As discussed at the parent forums, I include the link below in relation to a key program I would like to introduce into our school.

http://www.gethappier.net/

Kindergarten Orientation

Given that the school building is still under construction, we are limited in providing a Kindergarten Orientation which actually orientates the children to the school and their teachers. My intention at this stage is to offer a Parent Forum to assist parents with transitioning their children to Kindergarten. I will advise you of the date as soon as possible.

I am currently based at Victoria Avenue Public School and can be contacted on telephone 97431352 and/or by email rose.manousaridis@det.nsw.edu.au

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance.

I acknowledge the Wangal people of the Eora Nation, who are the traditional custodians of the land along the southern shore of the Parramatta River and pay my respects to the Elders, both past and present, and to those of the future, for they hold the memories, the traditions, the cultures and the hopes of Aboriginal Australia.
