WP Community Centre & Library – update from CoP Council

Work is moving ahead on the new community centre and library for the community of Wentworth Point at Footbridge Boulevard, next to the Bennelong Bridge.
Community consultation on the design and architectural plans was held in February and March and included a workshop with future users, stakeholders, local residents and community groups and an online survey.

Combined feedback was received from more than 180 people. Here’s what you told us.

“A welcoming centre for people of all ages and cultures.”

“A flexible use of rooms that can be made big or small.”

“Space for bike parking and live music.”

“Shade trees and a café/food trucks.”

We listened to what you said and the library will now include a children’s play and youth study space, a 24/7 book vending machine and a diverse range of collections. A café will be located on the ground floor next to the library.

The community centre will have several large and small flexible meeting rooms and function spaces, an art studio space, a multipurpose area for dance and other activities, music practice areas and a 24/7 co-working space for local microbusiness people.

The forecourt will provide opportunities for a variety of activities including performances, workshops, exhibitions and a place for general relaxation.

We have increased the budget to nine million dollars to make sure we can provide a facility that meets community needs.

A Development Application for the project will be lodged in August. Completion of the centre is anticipated to be mid-2018.

How will I stay up to date about the project?
Council is committed to working with the Wentworth Point community and will provide regular updates on the project as it progresses.
